Oulton Park Gold Cup

Like most of the country my plans for 2020 were thrown into turmoil with the advent of COVID-19, the last official event I photographed was CageWarriors 112 in Manchester on the 7th March. Following that everything was cancelled or postponed, from weddings and sporting events to family holidays.

All bets were off, the virus had struck the world!

As lockdown restrictions were eased we planned a week away to get up into the hills, do a bit of walking and generally recharge the batteries. Unfortunately the week we booked clashed with the Historic Sports Car Club Gold Cup event at Oulton Park, not something I originally planned to attend but as it involved motorsports and spectators were permitted I decided to make a flying visit for qualifying before we headed away.

What a shame I couldn’t stay all weekend, the weather was glorious (if a bit cooler than of late) and the sights and sounds on track were fantastic. There was everything from historic road sports and touring cars to Classic Formula 2 and 3 as well as many other wonderful race cars from a golden era all immaculately presented.

I could only stay for free practise and qualifying but the on-track action was great and I managed to capture plenty of images, there’s a small selection below (processed to suit the era) but now I’m back home I’ll get the rest processed as soon as I can and upload them to the Motorsports Gallery.

Thanks for taking a look, I’d love to hear what you think so feel free to leave a comment below.

Darren.
