The Wedding of Kim and Steven at The Wild Boar Windermere - Darren Athersmith

The Wedding of Kim and Steven at The Wild Boar Windermere

Last Friday saw me up bright and early to set off for The Wild Boar Hotel near Windermere to photograph another Lake District Wedding, this time it was Kim and Steven who were tying the knot. I arrived at the hotel to sunshine and blue skies, just what the happy couple had hoped for!

Straight upstairs to capture the bridal preparations, Kim and her bridesmaids were all calm while hair and makeup was in full flow (along with the champagne) and the flowers were arriving courtesy of Made in Flowers of Kendal. The calmness changed to mild panic for a short while after a ‘technical hitch’ with one of the bridesmaids dresses, the girls rallied around though and were soon good to go.

Meanwhile Steven and his Best Man were downstairs sampling a good Scotch in the bar followed by a pint with guests outside in the sunshine. The room was perfectly prepared and soon family and friends took to their seats ready for their bride to arrive.

After a short while everyone was standing as Kim walked down the aisle on the arm of her very proud Dad, Gatsby the dog gave a little song and then the ceremony began. Lines were repeated without a glitch, the register was signed and Kim and Steven were married!

The Wild Boar has a lovely little tarn up in the woods and they have a Land Rover on hand to take a small party up there so that’s where we headed. The short journey was a little bumpy to say the least but everyone survived and enjoyed the scenery once we got there. You can’t beat the Lake District for wedding photography and we managed some lovely portraits before getting back into the Land Rover for the journey back down.

Time for the speeches! Now I’ve heard some good Best Man’s speeches in my time and this one was up there with the best, it even featured hand-made props and everyone was in stitches. Delicious food followed the speeches and I was surprised to find there was even a place for me on one of the tables so thanks a lot Kim & Steven and to the guests who made me so welcome.

All that was left was the first dance to kick off the evening party. Kim and Steven took to the dance floor before it was invaded by their guests as the party began, it looked like it was set to be a great night.

Congratulations both and thanks for having me as your Lake District Wedding Photographer.
